Two water springs in a dry pan
Sunday, 2 September 2012
The bushman's water holes have only young-bull spoors. South into new pans. A group of bulls we cannot read. We follow for a kilometer until we are sure they are not old. Then at eleven-thirty, at a dry pan with two water springs, a group of old-bull spoors.
The bushman’s water holes had only a couple of young-bull spoors. South into a set of new pans. A group of bulls cut a line we could not separate — young or old, we had to walk a kilometer to be sure they were young.
By eleven-thirty, a pan with two water springs, dry but holding. A group of old-bull spoors. We tracked them for five point four kilometers when the bulls separated and went different ways. The trackers cast for an hour twenty. Too many cows and calves crossing the line. We gave it up.

Nine young kudu bulls on the walk back.

In the afternoon, a new water hole north of Tsumkwe. Big old-bull spoors from last night. Trackers up the tree for a look around. Nothing today. Tomorrow we come back at first light.
