Young bulls, cows and calves, forty pounds

Thursday, 23 August 2012

Nothing old on any pan near camp. Two hours south to a set of new pans. Two young bulls at one. Several spoors at another — Robert says come back in the afternoon.

Only young bulls, cows and calves at the two pans near camp. An hour and a half of looking for something bigger — nothing. Felix decided to drive to new pans south of camp — two hours away. Two young bulls at one pan. At another, several bull spoors. Robert said come back in the afternoon.

A new pan two hours south — several bull tracks, nothing old yet

On the way to the pan after lunch, an old bull with no right tusk. Left tusk thirty-five to forty pounds. A few kudu and warthogs. We reached the pan at half past four and immediately saw a young bull. Two more young bulls two hundred meters further.

Felix sent trackers up a tree. Within half an hour they spotted a bull working his way toward the pan. The wind changed. He turned and all the others went with him.

The wind turned. They all left. The day ended where it started
