Stuck in the west, again

Four kudu bulls half a kilometer from camp. A long morning and afternoon of looking. Four elephant bulls, forty to fifty pounds, a hundred meters off the gravel to Tsumkwe. Late afternoon, a dirt road west of Tsumkwe we had never pushed into — stuck in flooded ground before long. We winched our way out.
Four kudu bulls half a kilometer from camp at first light. We drove a number of roads looking for a decent elephant spoor to follow. Nothing but young-bull and cow-calf sign. A forty-eight-inch kudu bull with nine or ten cows, a single young warthog.

In the afternoon on the way to Tsumkwe, four elephant bulls a hundred meters off the main gravel. Forty to fifty pounds each.

West of Tsumkwe we turned onto a dirt road we had never used, trying to find a way in from that side. We drove a long way before the track flooded under us. Winched out. Turned for camp.
